Fire in the Supes

Trekked out into the Superstition Wilderness for a little desert camping, and to check out how much damage was done by the Woodbury fire. Unfortunately, I found that the fire had decimated one of my favorite stretches of desert, Coffee Flat. It was eerie and a bit sad to wander among these giant friends of mine, many of whom will not survive.

  1. More great photography, coupled with your story, your outdoor adventures which I admire. I grew up with my family camping, then boy scout trips, including high sierra backpacks. Some of the best memories of my life. And your sharing of your adventures brings back great memories of mine from earlier years. Keep on keepin’ on, and keep on sharing them this way, Keven!

  3. Very moving account Kev with gorgeous, poignant images as always.

Some of the damaged Saguaros have lots of little buds at the bottom. Is this a sign of recovery?

    • Thanks Joanna! No, the buds are normal growths in the saguaros and the ones you’re seeing have been growing for at least ten years! The fire was pretty recent, and saguaros grow super slowly, so we won;t see signs of recovery, if there are some, until a couple years from now.
