A terrific five-day backpacking trip into the Weminuche Wilderness just outside of Durango, Colorado.

It’s a rugged, but incredibly lush forest with gorgeous alpine lakes and lovely stands of aspen. We started at the Pine River trailhead, climbed to just above 10,000 feet to Emerald lake, and then followed the Pine River to various nice campsites.

The wildflowers were nearing the end of their peak, but the fungi was everywhere and quite diverse!
